The planting is in a field that backs onto a small wood which itself backs onto farmland above. The farmland has been ploughed for several years and this has caused excess water runoff to pour through the woodland and into the field to be planted. It has changed the land somewhat making it wetter and also causing water to run down through the field onto the road below. Slowing the runoff will help retain the nutrients in the soil and intercept the flow particularly when heavy rainfall occurs.<\/p>\n

The Somerset Tree strategy<\/h2>\n

The new Somerset Tree Strategy<\/a> was adopted by Somerset Council. on the 6th of June 2023. The strategy recognises the Council\u2019s role in helping tackle the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss and has been developed in partnership with the Environment Agency, Somerset Local Nature Partnership, Exmoor National Park, Quantock Hills, AONB Partnership, The Forestry Commission and The Woodland Trust.<\/p>\n
